Isle of Arran

The Isle of Arran is on the West Coast of Scotland. It is the most accessible Scottish Island- known as Scotland in miniature. The road around the Island is 56 miles long and it takes around 2 hours to cover by car.

Arran is beautiful - seals bask on the rocks beneath Brodick Castle while red deer roam the heather-clad bens and glens which provide a real challenge to the serious climber or a leisurely walk for the rambler or naturalist. Ridge walking is deservedly very popular, not least because of the spectacular views which the mountains and burns enshrine. Ormidale is centrally situated in Brodick and is convenient for such mountain access. Paragliding, Pony trekking, putting, swimming, kayaking, tennis, bowling and golf (Arran has 7 courses) are other activities easily accessible from the Ormidale Hotel.

For the less adventurous, Arran offers some excellent choices for those in need of some retail therapy. We have many quirky shops selling everything from local crafts and art works to our splendid island produced cheeses, preserves and smoked products.

For those looking for culinary experiences, as well as our own bar meals, Brodick offers many choices from fast food to fine dining, all within easy reach of Ormidale. There are numerous cafes and tearooms offering excellent food and home baking all around the island.

Car ferries sail from Ardrossan (all year) and Claonaig in Kintyre (full service summer only, booking required in winter). To book a car, phone Caledonian MacBrayne:0990 650000. www.calmac.co.uk Train services from Glasgow Central connect with most ferry services. Due to the reduced ferry fares, sailings can be busy. Reserve your place in advance if you are bringing over a car.
